The move is expected to help stabilize the domestic market and promote fair trade practices. The Government of India has imposed a definitive Anti-Dumping Duty ( ADD ) on imports of aluminium foil up to 80 microns thick originating primarily from China.
This move follows a detailed investigation by the designated authority, which concluded that the imports were being dumped at prices below the normal value, causing material injury to the domestic aluminium foil industry.
The notification, issued by the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) and published in the Gazette of India on June 19, 2025, confirms the imposition of ADD on various tariff lines covering aluminium foil products imported from China PR. The duty will be applicable for a period of five years, effective from March 17, 2025, and is payable in Indian currency.

The probe into aluminium foil imports was initiated following complaints from domestic manufacturers who alleged that Chinese exporters were dumping aluminium foil at unfairly low prices, severely impacting Indian producers. The designated authority's preliminary findings, published in August 2024, recommended provisional ADD on these imports to safeguard the local industry.
The final findings, released in March 2025, confirmed that dumped imports had caused significant material injury to the domestic industry. Consequently, the Central Government adopted the recommendation and imposed the definitive ADD, superseding the provisional duty earlier imposed in March 2025.
The duty rates vary depending on the producer, with companies like Henan Mingtai Technology Development Co. Ltd. and Sunho New Materials Technology Co. Ltd. facing rates ranging from approximately USD 479 to USD 721 per metric ton. The notification also excludes certain categories such as ultra-light gauge foils for insulation and spices packaging, aluminium composite panels, and special-grade foils used in electronics and automotive industries.
The imposition of ADD aims to level the playing field for Indian aluminium foil producers by neutralizing the price advantage enjoyed by dumped imports.
