Centre appoints 53 Special Public Prosecutors across states and one Assistant Legal Advisor for the entire country to handle PMLA cases before Special Courts

The Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, has issued two Gazette notifications, Notification No. S.O. 4059(E) and S.O. 4060(E), both dated 4th September 2025, announcing the appointment of Special Public Prosecutors (SPPs) and an Assistant Legal Advisor to represent the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) across the country.
According to Notification No. S.O. 4059(E), a panel of 53 advocates from different States and Union Territories has been appointed as Special Public Prosecutors. These advocates will conduct prosecutions on behalf of the ED before designated Special Courts under PMLA. Each advocate has been assigned jurisdiction over a particular state or union territory, with their tenures generally lasting until 18th August 2027, though some end earlier.
Separately, Notification No. S.O. 4060(E) provides for the appointment of Shri Ankush Kumar Prajapati, Assistant Legal Advisor, as a Special Public Prosecutor for PMLA cases throughout India. This national-level appointment ensures that ED has an empowered prosecutor available across all jurisdictions.
