The Finance Ministry's Revenue Department has released Notification No. 39/2025-Customs (ADD). This extends the current anti-dumping duty on imports of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) resin from China.

PET resin is a type of plastic material used in things like bottles and packaging. This notification covers PET resin with an intrinsic viscosity (a measure of its thickness) of 0.72 decilitres per gram or more. It comes under customs tariff codes 3907 61 90 and 3907 69 90.

Earlier, the government had put this anti-dumping duty in place through Notification No. 18/2021-Customs (ADD) on March 27, 2021. This was because cheap imports from China were harming Indian manufacturers.

Before the old duty ended, the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) started a 'sunset review' on September 23, 2025. This review, under Section 9A(5) of the Customs Tariff Act and Rule 23 of the Anti-Dumping Rules, 1995, checks if the duty should stay or not.

The DGTR asked to keep the duty going while the review happens. The central government agreed and changed the old notification.

Now, the anti-dumping duty on PET resin from China will continue until June 26, 2026, unless it's stopped, changed, or replaced before that. This new notification doesn't add any fresh duty or alter the rates. It just stretches the existing one to protect Indian industries during the review.

The duty must be paid in Indian rupees, based on the exchange rate set by customs laws.
