The Central Government has extended the tenure of Ms. Mamta Shankar, Whole-Time Member (Economics) at the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), until she attains the age of 62 years. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance (Department of Financial Services), her term will continue beyond April 9, 2026, up to September 13, 2026, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The extension has been made under Section 4 of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Act, 2013. The notification, signed by Joint Secretary Parshant Kumar Goyal, was published in the Gazette of India on November 17, 2025.
PFRDA, established to regulate and promote pension funds in India, plays a crucial role in overseeing the National Pension System (NPS) and ensuring transparency and accountability in pension fund management. As Whole-Time Member (Economics), Ms. Shankar has been closely involved in shaping economic and policy directions within the authority.
The government’s decision to prolong her tenure is seen as a move to ensure continuity in leadership at a time when pension reforms are gaining momentum. With India’s pension sector expanding to cover a wider base of subscribers, experienced leadership at PFRDA is expected to provide stability and reinforce confidence among stakeholders.
