The Ministry of Finance, through the Department of Revenue, has issued Notification No. 05/2026-Customs (ADD) dated April 17, 2026, announcing the removal of anti-dumping duty (ADD) on a specific category of aluminium products. The decision follows a Delhi High Court order and revises the earlier duty framework on flat rolled aluminium imports from China.

India had imposed anti-dumping duty in 2021 on certain aluminium products under tariff headings 7606 and 7607 to protect domestic manufacturers from cheap imports. These duties were based on findings by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR).

Following a Delhi High Court order dated July 7, 2025, the DGTR reviewed its earlier findings and excluded a specific product from the scope. The government has now accepted this recommendation and amended the notification accordingly.

Key change

  • Lithograde aluminium coils of width above 1150 mm are now excluded from ADD

While anti-dumping duty will continue to apply on most flat rolled aluminium products imported from China, this particular category will no longer attract the duty.

Lithograde aluminium coils are mainly used in specialised applications such as printing plates and certain industrial processes. Industry sources indicate that such high-width coils are not widely produced domestically, which may have influenced the decision.
