A late-night hotel meet-up arranged through a dating app turned fatal for a 33-year-old chartered accountant, whose body was discovered in a Kasba hotel room last Saturday.

The Kolkata Police have arrested two suspects Komal Saha and her live-in partner Dhruba Mitra with regards to the death of Adarsh Losalka, after investigations disclosed that it was that the duo had allegedly plotted to extort money from the victim and murdered him when he refused to pay.

According to police officials, Komal had befriended Losalka on a dating app and agreed to meet him at the hotel in exchange for ₹2,000, the amount allegedly negotiated online. However, once at the hotel, Komal and Dhruba allegedly devised a plan to extort ₹20,000 from the victim by pressuring him to make an online transfer.

Police sources said the two suspects had been inconsistent in their statements since their arrest, raising suspicion and further strengthening the case against them.

Investigators pieced together the murder sequence using CCTV footage, hotel records and interrogation details. Losalka had booked two rooms, and Komal and her partner Dhruba initially entered one together, NDTV reported.

About ten minutes later, Komal went alone to Losalka’s room, where he had ordered beer and was later seen picking up snacks on CCTV. Footage also captured Komal and Dhruba talking at length in the corridor, during which they allegedly planned to extort him.

After returning to his room and finding Losalka heavily intoxicated, Komal called Dhruba inside. The duo searched for cash, found only ₹1,500, and then demanded ₹20,000 through an online transfer.

When Losalka refused to pay, Dhruba assaulted him, and the duo tied his legs with a towel, dragged him to the floor and smothered him with a bedsheet. CCTV footage captured them fleeing around 2:30 a.m., entering their other booked room to collect belongings before escaping the hotel.

Police arrested Komal and Dhruba the next day, charging them with murder, criminal conspiracy and related offences. Investigators are now analysing forensic evidence, digital footprints, chat records and attempted transactions. The probe continues, and a detailed chargesheet is expected soon.
