The Department of Trade & Taxes, Government of the National Capital Territoryof Delhi, has issued an administrative order directing that all offices under the department will remain open on every Saturday and Sunday throughout December 2025.
The decision, communicated through an order dated December 12, 2025, has been made to expedite the clearance of pending assessment work for the financial year 2021–2022.
The directive applies to officers and officials posted across all wards, who have been instructed to attend office on these additional working days to ensure the timely disposal of assessment-related pendency.
According to the order, the department has observed a significant backlog in assessments for FY 2021–22, necessitating extended working days to meet internal timelines and administrative targets.
By mandating weekend attendance, the department aims to accelerate the scrutiny and finalisation of pending cases before the close of the calendar year. The order underscores the urgency of the task and the need for coordinated efforts across all ward offices to achieve compliance.

While the directive imposes additional working days, the department has also provided a relaxation for employees who wish to participate in Christmas festivities. The order explicitly states that any employee who intends to celebrate Christmas on 25 December 2025 will be exempted from attending the office on that day.
This exemption reflects an attempt to balance administrative requirements with cultural and personal considerations of staff members.
The order has been issued with the prior approval of the Competent Authority, signalling that the decision has been taken at a senior administrative level. Copies of the order have been circulated to key officials and units within the department, including the Commissioner’s office, Special Commissioner (Administration), Accounts Branch, Vigilance/Administration, and the Public Works Department’s electrical and civil engineering wings.
The person in charge of security guards has also been notified to ensure logistical and operational readiness during the extended office days.
The communication has been signed by the GSTO (Administration), who has reiterated the need for compliance and coordination among all concerned officers. The directive forms part of the department’s broader efforts to streamline assessment processes, reduce pendency, and improve administrative efficiency.
With the financial year’s assessment cycle approaching closure, the department appears focused on ensuring that all pending matters from FY 2021–22 are addressed without further delay.
