Import Restrictions on Low Ash Metallurgical Coke
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued Notification No. 22/2025 dated June 30, 2025, extending import restrictions on Low Ash Metallurgical Coke until December 31, 2025. According to the Notification, the country-wise Quantitative Restrictions (QR) on imports, which were set to expire on June 30, 2025, will now continue for another six months from July 1 to December 31, 2025.
The restrictions apply to Low Ash Metallurgical Coke under HS Codes 27040020, 27040030, 27040040, and 27040090. Coke is a critical raw material used in the steel and metal industries for smelting iron ore in blast furnaces.

- Australia: 51,276 MT
- China: 78,646 MT
- Colombia: 2,49,771 MT
- Japan: 2,09,980 MT
- Poland: 5,06,336 MT
- Russia: 89,182 MT
- Singapore: 46,478 MT
- Others: 45,662 MT
The total import allowed during July-December 2025 is 14,27,166 metric tonnes.
The extension helps to control excessive imports that may disrupt the domestic market, support local coke producers and steel manufacturers in planning raw material supply, and prevent sudden price fluctuations in the domestic market caused by unregulated imports.
The DGFT clarified that all other terms and conditions from the previous notification (No. 44/2024-25 dated December 26, 2024) will remain the same, and the restrictions will automatically cease on December 31, 2025, unless extended further.
