The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has extended the minimum export price (MEP) condition on natural honey, continuing restrictions aimed at regulating exports and ensuring price stability in the international market. The extension comes through a recent notification and will remain in force up to December 31, 2026.
The MEP for natural honey has been fixed at USD 1400 per metric tonne. This means exporters cannot ship honey below this price. The condition applies to exports under the relevant ITC(HS) code for natural honey and continues an earlier restriction imposed by the government.

The decision to extend the MEP is seen as part of the government’s effort to protect domestic producers and maintain fair pricing in global markets. Honey exports from India have been under scrutiny in recent years due to concerns about under-invoicing and quality issues.
- Export of natural honey is allowed only if the price is at or above USD 1400 per metric tonne.
- The condition will remain valid till December 31, 2026.
- The restriction applies to all exporters dealing in natural honey under the specified ITC(HS) code.
The extension is expected to impact exporters who rely on competitive pricing to enter international markets. Smaller exporters may find it difficult to match the minimum price requirement, especially in price-sensitive markets.

At the same time, the move may benefit domestic beekeepers and producers by preventing distress sales at lower prices. It also aims to improve the reputation of Indian honey exports by ensuring that only products meeting certain value benchmarks are shipped.
Exporters are now required to plan shipments carefully and ensure compliance with the revised condition. Non-compliance with the MEP may lead to rejection of export consignments or regulatory action.
