The Ministry of Commerce and Industry,Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued Notification No. 27/2025-26 dated August 22, 2025, announcing a major change in the export policy for natural honey.

According to the notification, the Minimum Export Price (MEP) for natural honey (HS Code 04090000) has been reduced from US Dollar 2000 per Metric Ton to US Dollar 1400 per Metric Ton (FOB basis). This change takes effect immediately and will remain valid till 31st December 2025.

The Minimum Export Price (MEP) is the lowest price at which a product can be exported. It is often used by the government to regulate exports, maintain fair trade practices, and protect domestic producers.

Until now, exporters of natural honey from India were allowed to export freely, but they had to follow the condition of a minimum price of $2000 per metric ton. With the new notification, exporters will be able to sell honey at a lower price of $1400 per metric ton, making Indian honey more attractive in international markets.

The government’s decision to lower the MEP seems aimed at encouraging higher exports and improving competitiveness of Indian honey in the global arena. Over the past few years, Indian honey exporters faced challenges due to high MEP, which made it difficult to compete with other honey-exporting countries where prices were lower.

For beekeepers and honey producers in India, this decision may lead to increased demand for their products, as exporters can now offer honey at more competitive prices.
