The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday revoked Paytm Payments Bank Limited's(PPBL) banking license as part of the nation's fintech development. With effect from the end of business on April 24, the regulatory action stops the entity's banking operations.

The central bank invoked Section 22(4) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, to carry out the cancellation, thus ending the bank's ability to conduct banking operations. In compliance with Section 22(4) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 ("BR Act"), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has withdrawn the banking license issued to Paytm Payments Bank Limited with effect from the end of business on April 24.

PPBL will not be allowed to operate as a banking entity after the cancellation. The winding-down process is now the main focus, and the RBI is advising clients to take out their balances and make use of their money as soon as possible. The regulator and the bank's top aim is to guarantee a seamless withdrawal that minimises disruption to the broader digital payments ecosystem, even if the parent business, One97 Communications, would be severely impacted by this move.

Millions of users who use the platform for digital transactions and wallet services may be impacted by the cancellation, which calls for an immediate shutdown of financial services. The RBI has previously instructed PPBL to make sure that after the designated date, no additional deposits, credit transactions, or top-ups are allowed in client accounts. Paytm Payments Bank's journey in the banking industry is virtually over as a result of the order, which forces the bank to shut down its banking operations.
