Finance Ministry Appoints N. Venkatram as SEBI Whole-Time Member [Read Notification]

The Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance has recently published a gazetted notification appointing N. Venkatram as a Whole-Time Member of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
The appointment, made by the Financial Markets Division exercising its statutory powers powers under clause (d) of Sub-Section (l) of Section 4 of the Securities and ExchangeBoard of India Act, 1992 (15 of 1992), read with Rule 19A of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Terms and Conditions of Service of Chairman and Members) Rules, 1992.
Venkatram currently serves as the Country Chair of La Caisse (CDPQ) India. In his new position he shall affiliate with SEBI as a whole-time member for a period of three years from the date he assumes charge of the post, or until he attains the age of seventy or until further orders, whatsoever may be earlier.
In his role as Country Chair of La Caisse (CDPQ) India, Venkatram has been integral to the organisation’s international management initiatives and also supports the execution of its strategy across multiple asset classes.
La Caisse (CDPQ) India is the Indian investment arm of Canada’s global pension fund investor La Caisse, which manages long-term investments across industries such as infra, private equity and real assets.
Venktaraman’s position in the organization sees him work closely with regional leadership to enhance engagement in India’s financial and business sectors and also represents the institution before the government, financial regulatory bodies and industry associations.
With over four decades of experience, Venkatram brings extensive industry exposure to capital mobilisation, mergers and acquisitions, governance and strategic advisory.

Prior to his joining La Caisse, he spent nearly thirty years at Deloitte where he held numerous leadership positions. Most notably, he served as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Partner of Deloitte South Asia for eight years during which the firm witnessed significant expansion in the region and revenues multiplying four-fold.
A qualified Chartered Accountant with an accounting degree, Venkatram currently serves on the SEBI Takeover Panel, the Corporate Bonds and Securitisation Advisory Committee and the High-Powered Committee on Settlement Orders and Compounding of Offences.
