Navjot Singh, a Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, died after a speeding BMW hit his motorcycle near Delhi Cantt on Sunday. His wife, Sandeep Kaur, was badly injured and is in the hospital.

According to police officials, Singh and his wife were returning home to Hari Nagar after visiting Bangla Sahib Gurudwara when the accident took place. A speeding BMW, allegedly driven by a woman named Gaganpreet from Gurugram, struck their motorcycle from behind. The impact was so severe that both Singh and his wife were thrown off the bike. Eyewitnesses said the luxury car was being driven recklessly before it collided with the two-wheeler.

After the crash, the injured couple was taken to Nuelife Hospital in GTB Nagar, which is about 17 to 22 kilometers from the accident site. Singh’s son, Navnoor, has raised serious questions about this decision. He argued that his father might have survived if he had been taken to a hospital closer to Dhaula Kuan, where the accident happened. “Time is critical in such cases. Maybe he would have lived if help had reached him faster,” he told reporters.

Navnoor has also alleged irregularities in the handling of the case. He said the woman driver and her husband, who were also injured, were present at the hospital but their details were not recorded properly. He further claimed that hospital staff were evasive and that a medico-legal certificate was being prepared later in suspicious circumstances.

Police have seized both vehicles involved in the crash and have registered an FIR. The charges include culpable homicide not amounting to murder, rash driving, endangering life, and destruction of evidence. Investigators said statements of the accused will be recorded once their medical condition improves.

The accident has once again drawn attention to the dangers of reckless driving in the capital. Singh’s death has left his family and colleagues in shock, while his wife continues to fight for her life in hospital. The investigation is ongoing.
