Why have the Names been Revised?

As per the official notifications published in the Gazette of India, the changes have been made to align the names of RRBs with their sponsor banks and operational regions, in a means to ensure uniform branding and regional identification for the RRBs.

The revisions come into effect from the dates specified in the Gazette publications.

The name changes are as follows:

  • Firstly, on the recommendation of Punjab National Bank, the Assam Gramin Vikash Bank has been renamed as Assam Gramin Bank.
  • The Sarva Haryana Gramin Bank has been renamed as Haryana Gramin Bank, also on the request of Punjab National Bank.
  • The Puduvai Bharathiyar Grama Bank has now been renamed as Puducherry Grama Bank on the request of Indian Bank.
  • The State Bank of India, which sponsors several RRBs, requested two such changes:
  • The Chhattisgarh Rajya Gramin Bank has been renamed as Chhattisgarh Gramin Bank on the request of The State Bank of India
  • The Jharkhand Rajya Gramin Vikas Bank has been renamed as Jharkhand Gramin Bank on the request of The State Bank of India
  • The Kerala Gramin Bank has been renamed as Kerala Grameena Bank upon the request of Canara Bank.

Each RRB will continue to function within its existing jurisdiction and disburse all functions as it does presently.
