The Finance Ministry issued Customs Notification No. 17/2026-Customs (N.T.) dated 3 February 2026 has reduced the customs tariff values of gold and silver, a move that will lower the base value used for calculating import duty on these precious metals.

Under the notification, the tariff value of gold has been lowered to ₹1,518 per 10 grams, while the tariff value of silver has been reduced to ₹2,657 per kilogram. These values will apply for the purpose of customs duty calculation on eligible imports.

Explanation - For the purposes of this entry, silver in any form shall not include foreign currency coins, jewellery made of silver or articles made of silver.

(i) Gold bars, other than tola bars, bearing manufacturer’s or refiner’s engraved serial number and weight expressed in metric units;

(ii) Gold coins having gold content not below 99.5% and gold findings, other than imports of such goods through post, courier or baggage.

Explanation - For the purposes of this entry, “gold findings” means a small component such as hook, clasp, clamp, pin, catch, screw back used to hold the whole or a part of a piece of Jewellery in place.
