The primary focus of these meetings will be to review the on-ground implementation of tax policies, identify bottlenecks in taxpayer services, and streamline processes to make tax administration more taxpayer-friendly.
Issues such as delays in GST registration, refund processing, fake invoicing, and tax evasion will be discussed with GST and customs officials. For income tax, topics like pending appeals, refund delays, and high-pitched assessments are expected to be on the agenda.
According to Business Standard, the Finance Minister aims to ensure that tax enforcement is both effective and fair, with an emphasis on making compliance easier for honest taxpayers while tightening measures against evasion.
The meetings are also intended to gather direct feedback from field officers on what is working well and where improvements are needed.
