At 101 years old, CA Shantilal Popatlal Vora continues to be a shining example of dedication, discipline and integrity. Born on 7 November 1924, he is celebrated as India’s oldest living Chartered Accountant, a symbol of lifelong commitment to the accounting profession.

Recently, CA (Dr.) Charanjot Singh Nanda, the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), visited Mr. Vora at his residence to honour his remarkable journey and contribution to the profession. The meeting was filled with warmth and gratitude as the ICAI President appreciated Mr. Vora’s invaluable service.

Sharing his experience on LinkedIn, President Nanda wrote, “I had the profound honour of visiting the home of CA Shantilal Popatlal Vora, the oldest living Chartered Accountant, to celebrate his remarkable journey and lifelong contribution to our profession. It was a deeply heartwarming and inspiring experience — listening to his reflections, witnessing his enduring passion for the profession, and expressing gratitude on behalf of ICAI for his invaluable service.”

Mr. Vora qualified as a Chartered Accountant in the early years after India’s independence. Over the decades, he witnessed the transformation of the profession from handwritten ledgers and manual audits to digital accounting systems and global financial reporting standards. Yet, his values of honesty, precision and public service have never changed.

President Nanda added that moments like these remind him of the “legacy, integrity and commitment that define the Chartered Accountancy profession — values that continue to guide and inspire generations of CAs.”

CA Shantilal Popatlal Vora’s story is more than a personal milestone. It reflects the evolution of the accounting profession in India and the spirit of service that continues to inspire thousands of young Chartered Accountants today. His life is truly a legacy of integrity, dedication and passion that will keep guiding generations to come.
