The GST Network recently updated the GST portal by merging the “Additional Notices and Orders” tab with the main “Notices and Orders” tab. With this change, all notices and orders issued by GST authorities are now available in one single place under the “Notices and Orders” section of the portal.

Earlier, the portal had two separate tabs. Regular notices were shown under “Notices and Orders” and many important communications like assessment orders, appeal related notices, audit notices and recovery orders were uploaded under the “Additional Notices and Orders” tab.

Many GST taxpayers were not aware of this separate tab and used to check only the main notices section.

Because of this, several taxpayers missed important notices and orders uploaded in the additional tab. In many cases, taxpayers approached High Courts seeking condonation of delay, stating that they did not notice the order in time since it was uploaded in the “Additional Notices” tab and not in the regular notices section. Courts have also taken note of such difficulties faced by taxpayers while using the GST portal.

The merging of both tabs appears to be a response to these repeated issues and litigation. By placing all notices and orders in one consolidated tab, the GST portal is trying to reduce confusion and avoid situations where taxpayers miss deadlines unintentionally.

Taxpayers are now advised to regularly check the single “Notices and Orders” tab to ensure that no communication from the department is missed.
