In a late but crucial announcement, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has notified users about a scheduled system upgrade to the dedicated online portal.
The banner displayed on the GST portal reads: “We shall be enhancing services on the GST portal on 24th July’25 12:00 AM onwards. GST Portal services will not be available until 24th July’25 06:00 AM. The inconvenience caused is regretted.”
According to the message displayed on the site, the GST Portal will be undergoing enhancement work and will remain inaccessible from 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM on 24th July 2025. The services are slated to resume immediately after the six-hour maintenance window, as per the current schedule.

The GSTN does not provide any further details about the nature of the upgrade, but it is understood that the downtime is intended to improve system performance and ensure smoother functioning of the platform amidst increased user activity.
As digital compliance measures increase, the GSTN also aims to streamline its operations, improve user interface experience and address backend system lags, especially around return filing timelines.
The downtime is not expected to have an immense impact on filers, especially since it has been strategically scheduled from midnight to early morning to minimize disruption.

However, taxpayers and practitioners intending to carry out filings, invoice uploads or reconciliation tasks during these hours may face difficulty accessing the portal, potentially leading to inadvertent delays or technical errors.
This is the only official update available at present, and users are advised to remain alert in case any revisions are announced regarding the downtime schedule. Users with urgent filings or compliance activities are recommended to plan their usage accordingly and avoid last-minute submissions during the notified window.
Taxpayers are advised to stay tuned to the official GST portal for any further announcements and updates on the matter.
