Many taxpayers faced technical problems while filing GSTR-7 on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) portal this month. The Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has issued an advisory addressing the issues and suggested temporary solutions to help users complete their filings.

Several taxpayers reported receiving “System Failure” or “Schema Validation Failed” errors while submitting their GSTR-7 returns. These errors appeared either during invoice entry or while uploading JSON files created through the offline utility.

According to GSTN, taxpayers who encounter a “System Failure” message for invoice count should re-enter the same invoice using the same GSTIN, invoice number, and date. After re-entering, they must click “Generate Summary” on their dashboard before filing the return. This helps refresh the data and allows the filing to proceed.

For those facing a “Schema Validation Failed” error while using the offline tool, GSTN explained that its technical team is already working to resolve the problem. Until the fix is implemented, taxpayers are advised to file online through the GST portal or via API mode instead of the offline tool.

GSTR-7 is a monthly return filed by tax deductors under GST, such as government departments, agencies, and certain notified entities. It includes details of the tax deducted at source (TDS), the TDS liability, and the amount paid to the government.

The due date for filing GSTR-7 for September 2025 was October 10, 2025, but many taxpayers were unable to file on time due to these technical issues. Taxpayers express frustration on X over GSTN’s late advisory on GSTR-7 filing errors, saying the fixes came after office hours and the due date passed without any extension.
