Using the social media site X (previously Twitter), a taxpayer made a sincere request to the Income Tax Department, requesting that his long-overdue income taxreturn be processed immediately due to an urgent medical issue.
The taxpayer, publicly appealed to the Central Processing Centre (CPC) of the Income Tax Department, stating: “Dear Income Tax CPC office, kindly process the return quick & fast. Waiting for refund since long time, need fund on urgent basis.”

The post, shared on X, quickly garnered attention, noting the human impact of refund delays and sparking a conversation around taxpayer support during medical crises.
In response, the official handle of the Income Tax Department acknowledged the post and replied: “Dear [user], please share your details with us at http://bit.ly/3EIHJoi. Our team will get in touch with you.”
However, the taxpayer followed up with a more urgent message, posting photographs of his hospital bills along with a note: “Sir, I already raised grievances but department replied me that it’s an automated process so kindly wait... actually I have a medical emergency. I am admitted in hospital for my nasal surgery. I need fund urgently please.”
The attached bills show expenses incurred for a nasal surgery, stating the immediate need for financial assistance. The taxpayer expressed frustration over receiving automated replies despite explaining his critical condition and filing grievances through official channels.
The income tax department, finally, as a relief to the taxpayer, replied that their team is looking into the matter. It also added that “We also extend our best wishes for your swift recovery.”

Grievances should normally be submitted online by taxpayers via the e-filing portal, where the system generates the reply. Although the process's automated nature guarantees consistency, it frequently lacks flexibility to handle urgent, unique situations, particularly those involving health or life-threatening concerns.
Therefore, social media postings are always helpful when a taxpayer is going through a difficult period and can even help attract the attention of the higher-ups.
Since the department prioritised this issue, the taxpayer can hope that his problem can be resolved promptly. In a similar vein, this will set a positive example for those in similar circumstances.
