The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has formally added Khammam to its expanding national network, issuing a Gazette notification that establishes the Khammam Branch of the Southern India Regional Council (SIRC).
Signed by ICAI Secretary CA (Dr.) Jai Kumar Batra, the order was published in New Delhi on 6 June 2025 under file number F.No. 1-CA (7)/228/2025 and takes practical effect from 27 May 2025.
Under Regulation 159(1) of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988, the new branch has its headquarters in Khammam city, Telangana. Besides serving professionals within the municipal limits, its jurisdiction extends to three neighbouring towns that lie within a 50-kilometre radius — Madira, Wyra and Satthpalli — bringing chartered-accountancy services and student facilities closer to businesses in the eastern corridor of the state.
ICAI notes that branch offices act as the “front door” of the profession in tier-II and tier-III locations, delivering examination support, continuing professional education and advisory outreach under the “control, supervision and direction” of the Council through the regional office at Chennai. With the Khammam and Nizamabad units now counted, the Institute’s domestic footprint rises to 179 branches across five regional councils.

Announcing the decision, ICAI President CA Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal said the Council is committed to “taking the profession where the economy is growing fastest.” He highlighted the rise of start-ups and MSMEs in smaller cities and underlined that local access to chartered accountants is crucial for “robust compliance and transparent growth.” (The President’s June message had already flagged Khammam and Nizamabad as part of an “expanding national presence.”)
Members of the Khammam District Chartered Accountants Association welcomed the notification, saying it will shorten travel time for professional development programmes and provide students with a dedicated examination help-desk. The branch-in-formation is expected to operate from temporary premises by August while ICAI scouts for a permanent site near the city’s emerging IT hub. An inaugural CPE seminar on GST audit trends is being lined up as the branch’s first technical event, signalling ICAI’s intent to integrate Khammam rapidly into the national calendar.
Industry observers believe the latest expansion, together with ongoing digital initiatives such as the ICAI MSME Yatra and Startup Gateway, will deepen financial literacy and assurance services in Telangana’s hinterland — reinforcing the profession’s role in India’s fast-moving, decentralised growth story.
