The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has released the second edition of its publication on the Income-tax Act, 2025, updated after the Finance Act, 2026, and carrying a section-wise mapping with the Income-tax Act, 1961. The new edition is meant to help professionals, students and taxpayers understand the new law and compare it with the old Act in an easier manner.

The publication is titled “Income-tax Act, 2025 (as amended by the Finance Act, 2026) Including Tabular Mapping of Sections vis-a-vis Income-tax Act, 1961.” The document shows that this is the second edition and was released in April 2026. It also records that the Income-tax Act, 2025 came into force on 1 April 2026.

In the foreword, ICAI President CA. Prasanna Kumar D said that the first edition of the publication was released in September 2025 after the new law was notified. He stated that the second edition has now been brought out after the changes made by the Finance Act, 2026.

He also said that the section-wise tabular mapping between the new law and the 1961 Act is one of the important parts of this publication, as it will help readers understand the transition from the old law to the new structure.

The publication also notes that the Income-tax Rules, 2026 and the prescribed forms were notified on 20 March 2026, which completed the main legal framework for the new income-tax law. The preface says ICAI’s Direct Taxes Committee had given suggestions on the new law and draft rules, and more than 150 recommendations were accepted across the Income-tax Act, 2025 and the Income-tax Rules, 2026.

The release of this second edition is important for tax professionals because the new law has replaced the old section structure with a fresh layout. The tabular mapping in the book will help readers trace corresponding provisions under the Income-tax Act, 1961 and understand the new Act with less confusion. The publication is expected to be a useful reference book for practice, study and day-to-day tax work.
