ICAI Resolves UDIN Linking Issue on Income-tax e-Filing Portal, Members Can Now Update Successfully
The direct taxes board has implemented the mentioning of UDIN in the income tax forms from 27th April 2020
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) has informed its members that the earlier technical issue relating to the failure in updating/linking UDIN (Unique Document Identification Number) on the Income-tax e-Filing Portal has now been resolved.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes ( CBDT ) validates the UDIN. They follow 5 parameters for the validation which include MRN, UDIN, AY/FY, Form No; and PAN of the assessee.
The ICAI, in its intimation to its members says that “This is to inform you that the issue reported earlier regarding the failed to update UDIN on the Income-tax e-Filing Portal has now been resolved.”
“Members are now able to successfully update/link the UDIN while filing or updating the relevant forms/reports on the Income-tax e-Filing Portal” , said the institute.

It has also instructed the members to write to udin@icai.in if they fail even after multiple attempts. The complete details and supporting screenshots shall be shared to the concerned authorities for verification.

The members should know that any Form or Tax Audit Report that has not been updated with a valid UDIN within the allotted 15 days will be considered invalid.
Therefore, the members have to schedule the submission of the TaxAudit Reports before the deadline in order to avoid any last-minute problems, as the forms will now only be considered acceptable via e-filing if the UDIN validation is completed and the taxpayer has approved the form.
