ICAI seeks One-Week Extension for GSTR-3B Filing Due Date for September 2025, writes to CBIC
The accounting body has requested CBIC to provide a similar reprieve under the GST Act, pointing out that the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had extended the deadline for submitting Tax Audit Reports for FY 2024-2025 to October 31, 2025.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India ( ICAI ) has written to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs ( CBIC ) requesting an extension of the due date for filing Form GSTR-3B for the month or quarter ended September 2025, stating difficulties arising from the Diwali festival and recent GST rate revisions.
In its representation addressed to Shri Sanjay Kumar Agrawal, Chairman, CBIC, ICAI President CA Charanjot Singh Nanda pointed out that Diwali, one of the widely celebrated festivals, falls on 20th and 21st October 2025.
The statutory due dates for filing GSTR-3B, 20th, 22nd, and 24th October 2025 coincide directly with the festival period. The Institute noted that as per the Central Government’s list of holidays for 2025, 20th October has already been declared a public holiday on account of Diwali.
The ICAI stated that during this festive period, taxpayers, professionals, and their staff members across the country take time off to celebrate with their families and travel to their hometowns. Consequently, offices and establishments function with limited capacity both before and after Diwali, making it practically difficult to ensure timely filing of GST returns.
Further, the Institute mentioned that the recent GST rate revisions, effective from 22nd September 2025, have added to the compliance challenges. Taxpayers are currently engaged in reconciling their invoices, updating accounting systems, and aligning ERP/SAP systems, including HSN integration, in accordance with the new rates. These adjustments have increased the workload on businesses and tax professionals alike.

“In view of the above, we humbly request that the due date for filing Form GSTR-3B for the month or quarter ended September 2025 may kindly be extended by one week to provide relief to taxpayers and to facilitate smooth compliance,” ICAI President CA Charanjot Singh Nanda stated in the letter.
