The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has announced a 15-day extension for the payment of its Annual Membership Fee and Certificate of Practice (CoP) Fee of Company Secretary (CS) Members, following a technical disruption on its online portal. Members can now complete their fee submissions without incurring any Restoration or Entrance Fees between 1 July and 15 July 2025.

In a communication to its members, the ICSI acknowledged “inconvenience caused due to a technical glitch in the membership portal.” Though the notice did not specify the nature or duration of the portal’s malfunction, it underscored the Institute’s commitment to minimizing disruption and ensuring members can remain in good standing without penalty.

Traditionally, late payment of the Annual Membership and CoP Fees results in the levying of Restoration and Entrance Fees, which can amount to several hundred rupees, depending on the duration of delay. The Institute’s decision to waive these charges for the extended period reflects an effort to alleviate financial burden on its over 70,000 members across India and abroad.

Several members welcomed the relief. The portal issues had many Company Secretaries scrambling at the last minute. This extension gives breathing room and ensures compliance without extra cost.

Members are advised to log in to the ICSI membership portal during the extension window, verify their details, and proceed with the online payment. Any queries or difficulties can be directed to the Institute’s helpline or raised through its grievance redressal portal.

Maintaining an active membership and CoP is mandatory for company secretaries who wish to render professional services, appear before regulatory authorities, and benefit from Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits. Non-payment can lead to suspension of membership, impacting legal recognition and professional privileges.

This announcement comes amid the ICSI’s broader push towards digitisation. Since 2023, the Institute has rolled out features such as e-membership cards, online CPE credit tracking, and automated reminders. The recent portal glitch—while temporary—highlights the challenges inherent in migrating legacy systems to digital platforms.

With the extended deadline now in force, industry observers expect a surge in portal traffic in early July. The ICSI has assured members that additional server capacity and support staff will be available to facilitate smooth transactions.

As the membership renewal period draws to a close on 15 July 2025, company secretaries are urged to act promptly to secure their professional credentials for the year ahead. Failure to comply by the extended deadline will result in the standard fee structure being reinstated from 16 July 2025 onwards.
