Income-Tax Based LPG Subsidy Verification Started, Consumers Above ₹10 Lakh Income Asked to Respond within 7 Days
These messages ask them to respond within seven days if they want to dispute the tax department's findings otherwise the subsidy will be discontinued

The Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) has started the verification of the LPG subsidies based on the income tax records. The consumers whose gross taxable income or that of their spouse crosses the ₹10 lakh are receiving text messages.
These messages ask them to respond within seven days if they want to dispute the tax department's findings.
The official warning is clear: failing to reply within the given seven-day window could lead to the immediate cancellation of your LPG subsidy. This is part of the government’s effort to ensure that subsidized domestic gas cylinders only reach the households that truly need financial support.
The Consumers who have been flagged by the system are receiving an SMS that reads:
“Dear LPG Consumer,
As per available Income-tax records, your (or a linked family member's) gross taxable income exceeds the prescribed limit of Rs.10 lakh. If you wish to dispute this, please contact the toll-free number 1800-2333-555 or register your grievance on the portal of your respective Oil Marketing Company within seven days of receipt of this message. If no response is received within the stipulated period, the LPG subsidy may be discontinued thereafter.”
It was alleged the the access of income tax records access to the oil companies is violation of privacy. However the OMCs clarified that the text messages sent was under the direction of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, reported The Hindu.
