The Income Tax Department has now allowed online filing of Form ITR-B for taxpayers who have received notices under Section 158BC of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

Section 158BC relates to cases where search and seizure actions have been conducted, and taxpayers are required to file their returns for undisclosed income found during these actions. Previously, taxpayers had to submit Form ITR-B manually to the Income Tax Office, which often involved delays and inconvenience for taxpayers as well as the department.

Now, taxpayers can submit Form ITR-B easily through the e-Proceedings tab on the Income Tax e-Filing Portal. This step will save time, reduce paperwork, and improve transparency in the compliance process.

The Income Tax Department aims to simplify the compliance process for taxpayers facing proceedings under Section 158BC. Many taxpayers, especially senior citizens and small business owners, found it difficult to visit the department physically to submit these forms. Online filing will help taxpayers submit the forms from their homes or offices, ensuring faster compliance without delays.

This initiative also concurs with the department’s broader goals under ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and Digital India, reducing the need for manual intervention and in-person visits.

Taxpayers are advised to submit Form ITR-B within the due dates mentioned in their notices to avoid penalties or further legal action. The department has also advised taxpayers to ensure all details are filled in correctly in Form ITR-B before submission.
