Who should file ITR-7?
ITR-7 is a specialized return form required to be filed by persons including companies who are obligated under the following sections of the Income-tax Act, 1961:
- Section 139(4A): Charitable or religious trusts, institutions, and organizations claiming exemption under sections 11 and 12.
- Section 139(4B): Political parties whose income (before exemptions) exceeds the basic exemption limit.
- Section 139(4C): Specified institutions such as news agencies, scientific research associations, universities, educational institutions, medical and other hospitals.
- Section 139(4D): Universities, colleges, and other institutions not required to file income or loss under other provisions.
This means ITR-7 is typically filed by trusts, NGOs, political parties, universities, hospitals, and certain institutions rather than individual taxpayers or regular companies.
