The Income Tax Department has announced the release of new return filing utilities on September 6, 2025, to make compliance easier for taxpayers.
As per the update, the Department has provided Excel Utilities for filing updated returns in ITR-5, ITR-6, and ITR-7 for the Assessment Years 2021-22 and 2022-23. These utilities have been aligned with the provisions of the Finance Act, 2025.
The Department has also released the Offline Utility for ITR-5 for Assessment Year 2025-26. This form is meant for taxpayers other than individuals, Hindu Undivided Families, companies, and persons who are required to file Form ITR-7.

The first and latest version of this utility was released on the same day, September 6, 2025. The due date for filing ITR-5 for AY 2025-26, in cases where audit is required, is October 31, 2025.
The Income Tax Department has clarified that the utilities are now available for download and filing through the Income Tax portal. Taxpayers who fall under the relevant categories can begin using these updated tools for filing their returns accurately and within the timelines prescribed.
