India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections continued their growth momentum in September 2025. The government reported a gross GST revenue of Rs. 1.89 lakh crore for the month, showing a 9.1 percent increase compared to Rs. 1.73 lakh crore collected in September 2024.
The gross revenue includes Rs. 33,645 crore from Central GST (CGST), Rs. 41,836 crore from State GST (SGST), Rs. 1,01,883 crore from Integrated GST (IGST), and Rs. 11,652 crore from Cess. The increase was mainly driven by higher IGST collections, particularly from imports.

After accounting for refunds, the net GST revenue for September 2025 stood at Rs. 1.60 lakh crore, marking a 5 percent year-on-year growth. Total refunds issued during the month amounted to Rs. 28,657 crore, which is 40 percent higher than the same period last year.

For the first half of the financial year 2025-26 (April to September), the gross GST revenue reached Rs. 11.93 lakh crore, up 9.8 percent from Rs. 10.87 lakh crore collected during the same period in 2024-25. The net revenue for April to September stood at Rs. 10.38 lakh crore, reflecting an 8.3 percent increase.
Among the components, IGST continued to show the strongest performance, rising to Rs. 1.01 lakh crore in September 2025. CGST and SGST collections also saw steady growth, while cess collection slightly declined compared to last year.
On the domestic front, GST revenues from local supplies grew by 6.8 percent, while collections from imports increased by 15.6 percent. This indicates a healthy pace of consumption and trade activity.
Several states recorded double-digit growth in their GST revenues. Sikkim, Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar showed significant increases, while a few states such as Telangana and Delhi reported marginal declines.
The data suggests that GST revenues remain on track, supporting both central and state finances in the ongoing financial year.
