ITR Refund Stuck? Here’s What the Income Tax Department Suggests
The explanation from the Department is intended to address the growing number of taxpayer inquiries and grievances over refund delays even when returns are filed on time.

The income tax payers awaiting their income tax refund may need to take a few important steps to ensure timely credit of the amount. The Tax Department has issued recommendations for individuals whose refunds have failed due to bank account issues such as non-validation or the need for re-validation.
As per the Department, one of the most common reasons for refund failures is that the taxpayer’s bank account is either not validated or requires re-validation. In such cases, the taxpayer must first ensure that the concerned bank account where the refund is expected is validated or re-validated through the income tax e-filing portal.

However, validation alone is not sufficient. The Department has also clarified that once the bank account is successfully validated or re-validated, taxpayers must remember to submit a “Refund Reissue Request” via the e-filing portal. Without this step, the refund cannot be processed or reissued.
To check and complete the necessary steps, taxpayers are advised to log in to the e-filingportal, navigate to the ‘Profile’ section to verify their bank account status, and, if needed, initiate the refund reissue request under the ‘Services’ tab.
The explanation from the Department is intended to address the growing number of taxpayer inquiries and grievances over refund delays even when returns are filed on time. Taxpayers can prevent additional delays and assure quick refund processing by following the recommended process.
