ITR Season Got You Overwhelmed? Feel Good Tips for CAs to Stay Focused and Eliminate Procrastination
Progress must take the place of perfection. Don't wait for the "perfect moment" or ideal conditions to begin

The ITR season is quite tiring for every tax filer, especially the Chartered Accountants ( CAs ). The work loads, client answerings, income taxportal issues…etc etc will make you exhausted like anything. At least for many, these days would be unhealthy days like, lack of proper food on time, lack of sleep, sitting long hours, verifications through numbers, calculations and many more.
Let's be honest: these weeks or months are frequently the least healthful times of the year. Eyes hooked to screens, caffeine taking the place of sleep, meals ignored or consumed cold, and mental fatigue building up like unfinished business. Now is the moment to stop and consider:
“Am I overwhelmed?”
If the answer is yes, don’t suppress it. Don’t wear burnout like a badge of honour. Admit your fatigue. Your productivity will only benefit from taking a moment to rest, reset, and return with greater clarity. And the best part? Making a few thoughtful adjustments can have an important effect, you don't need to completely transform your way of life.
Physical-Psychological Strategies: Rewiring Your Mental Focus
Wake up Early + Exercise = Make you a Power house
"Those who go to bed and wake up early are healthier, wealthier, and wiser." This timeless advice is more important than ever, particularly for professionals dealing with demanding work schedules. An early start to the day provides you with a peaceful window of time before the deluge of client calls, emails, and deadlines commences. It gives you room to plan purposefully, think clearly, and start the day how you want.
Add a little morning workout to your early start, whether it's yoga, stretching, a brisk stroll, or a quick workout at home. Movement for just 15 to 20 minutes will cleanse your head, increase endorphins, and awaken your muscles. The physical energy that stays with you throughout the day will be improved by these few minutes.
It is equally essential to get to bed early. You cannot compromise on getting enough sleep if you wish to work clearly and make fewer mistakes. A good night's sleep helps you feel rejuvenated, remember things better, and deal with stress in a composed manner. The greatest medication for relieving both physical and mental stress is this one. as well as nutritious cuisine.
Healthy Diet and be Hydrated
It's simple to rely on short solutions like caffeine and snacks or to miss meals when work gets hectic. But to perform at their peak, your body and mind require actual fuel. Rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meats, and healthy fats, a balanced diet helps you focus better, feel less stressed, and maintain energy levels.
Maintaining proper hydration is equally important. Even modest cases of dehydration can cause headaches, mental fog, and exhaustion, which are undesirable when it comes to important duties. Thus, maintain a bottle of water at your desk and feed your body healthy meals. Consider each snack and drink as an investment in your long-term health, clarity, and productivity.
Practice the 90/20 Rule OR 25/5 Rule
Work in 90-minute sprints followed by 20-minute breaks. Science says our brain can focus best in such intervals. Use the break to stretch, walk, or simply breathe deeply. Or you can also take a 5 minute break after every 25 minutes of work. Let your body get some air, legs get a free walk and your stomach gets some water and eateries.
Eliminate Procrastination
Even though it might feel like a temporary fix, procrastinating eventually causes worry. Due to tremendous workloads during ITR season, chartered accountants may experience last-minute pandemonium, decreased accuracy, and mental strain as a result of delays.
Progress must take the place of perfection. Don't wait for the "perfect moment" or ideal conditions to begin. Start with simple, doable activities, such as arranging client files, responding to three emails, or completing a single return. Momentum is created by these tiny movements.
Also, know why you're putting things off. Is it exhaustion? Feeling overwhelmed? Not clear enough? You can stop the loop and take deliberate action by determining the root.
Reward Yourself
This is something we don't do. We should consider ourselves first. If you filed 5 returns per day, reward yourself with anything, maybe a book, a chocolate (if you’re a sweet lover) or an ice-cream or anything that you love. Even a pen works too.
Invest time for yourself - Once a Week At least
Professionals in employment are good at helping others. Not to themselves, though. Always invest enough time for yourself. You can do anything you want, such as cooking, reading, singing, etc. Spend time with your loved ones, friends, or even the children who live next door. Speaking with children makes you feel even younger because you learn about the teen, school, and college trends. If not, you will grow old from working endlessly.
Work-Life Boundaries : Wrap at 7 PM
I think, sitting before the screen for more than 10 hours is killing yourself. If you start working at 9:30 am, ensure to wrap it up by 7 pm. Have your dinner at least before 9pm. Instead of working endlessly, assign fixed slots for work, client calls, reviews, and even breaks. Stick to it as much as possible.
Daily Goal Visualisation
Even though this is a fashionable lengthy term, it can also be termed as ‘To-do Lists’. Make a list of things that you should do in the coming 8 hrs or 9 hrs of your work. Take 5 or 10 minutes for that before you start your work. Make a checklist for whatever you’re going to file that day.
Acknowledge Stress Without Shame
You’re not a robot. Accepting that you’re stressed doesn’t make you less professional, it makes you human. Speak about it with your peers or team members. Talking about your stress can ease the burden.
So, find ways that you can get rid of stress. Some may prefer going to the gym, some spending time with friends. Anything works. But before going to sleep, please talk to some people, refresh yourself and prepare yourself for tomorrow.
Work Environmental Strategies
Keep your Table or Working Room Clean
This is very important: your workspace should feel inviting, calm, and functional. Whether it’s a table, a desk, or a corner in your room, it should encourage you to sit down and work with focus not overwhelm you further.
Start by clearing the clutter. Organize scattered papers and documents into neat stacks or folders. Arrange your essentials: pens, pencils, sticky notes, spectacle case, and your coffee or water mug, so everything you need is within easy reach. Don’t forget to place any books or references you frequently use in an orderly manner.
At a minimum, ensure there's a clean, dedicated space for your laptop and comfortable hand placement so you can work without strain. A tidy desk reduces mental noise and increases your ability to concentrate.
To add a touch of calm and freshness, consider placing a small indoor plant near your table or window. Even a simple green element can make your space feel more alive and reduce stress.
Chair Check
As Chartered Accountants, much of your work involves long hours of sitting. Investing in an ergonomic chair and a well-designed desk is essential to maintain proper posture and avoid physical strain. Good back support not only prevents fatigue but also protects your spinal health during those long work hours because your spine deserves nothing less than respect.
Add ‘Focus Corners’
Designate a specific space exclusively for deep, focused work, separate from areas where you relax, eat, or take calls. This physical separation helps your brain shift into 'work mode' more efficiently, boosting both focus and productivity.
Add small but meaningful touches to this place to make it better. Think about adding a piece of calming art that encourages clarity, a motivational quotation to keep your spirits up, or a potted plant to bring in some natural peace. It has been scientifically proven that including natural features and soothing colors, like earthy greens or gentle blues, can lower stress levels and promote long-term focus.
So, there is nothing more important in the world than yourself. Maintain your body and mind calm. Reduce the stress and give proper rest to your brain (may help you with reducing the hairfall too). Stay calm yet dedicated to your work and your client. Make your time doing best in your life rather than endlessly sitting before the laptop and pile of documents.
