New Act, New Income Tax Portal: India Ushers in a Simpler, Digital-First Tax Era
India has introduced a new Income-tax Act, 2025 and launched a revamped tax website to simplify compliance and improve taxpayer experience.

The Government of India has introduced a new Income-tax law and also launched an updated Income Tax Department website to make tax services easier for people. Both changes came into effect on April 1, 2026.
The new Income-tax Act, 2025 replaces the old law that had been in place since 1961. This is a major reform aimed at making tax rules simpler and easier to understand. The new law uses clear language and has a more organized structure so that taxpayers can follow it without confusion.
The Act was passed by Parliament on August 1, 2025, and approved by the President on August 21, 2025. To support the new law, the government also introduced the Income-tax Rules, 2026. New tax forms have been released as well. These forms are simpler and designed to make filing taxes quicker and more convenient.
Along with the new law, the Income Tax Department has launched a completely redesigned website. The new website is user-friendly and works smoothly on computers, mobile phones, and tablets.

The website has been designed to be accessible to everyone, including people with different needs. Officials say that these changes will make the tax system more transparent, simple, and efficient.
The launch of the new law and website marks an important step in improving India’s tax system and making it more focused on the needs of citizens.
