Understanding Impairment of Assets - Ind AS 36

Impairment of assets means checking whether a company’s assets are shown in the books at more than the amount that can realistically be recovered from them. Under the Ind AS 36 standard, an asset is considered impaired if its book value is higher than the amount the company can recover - either by selling the asset (after deducting any selling costs) or by continuing the asset to generate income.

The standard ensures that financial statements represent assets only at their actual worth, promoting accuracy and transparency to investors and regulators.
