The Delhi government has mandated Aadhaar verification for obtaining income certificates. This progress follows the endorsement of the proposal by V.K. Saxena, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.

This modification is based on Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act, 2016, which allows the government to mandate Aadhaar authentication for obtaining subsidies from the Consolidated Fund of India.

By requiring Aadhaar for income certificates, the government aims to eradicate fraudulent or duplicate applications and guarantee that assistance reaches only legitimate and deserving recipients.

The income certificate is essential in assessing eligibility for various welfare programs, such as tuition fee reimbursements for SC/ST/OBC students, pensions for widows, seniors, and individuals with disabilities, along with medical and financial support through programs like the Delhi Aarogya Kosh.

For residents seeking income certificates, the updated requirement introduces several procedural alterations. Adults lacking an Aadhaar card must first start the Aadhaar enrollment procedure.

They can present their enrollment slip along with supporting documents like a bank passbook, PAN card, driving license, passport, or a Kisan photo passbook until the Aadhaar is created.

For minors without Aadhaar, parents or guardians must present an Aadhaar enrollment or biometric update slip for the child, along with a birth certificate or a school ID signed by the principal or headmaster.

Verification supported by Aadhaar is anticipated to lessen the requirement for various documents and cross-checking, streamlining the process and enhancing its efficiency.

Applicants need to verify that their Aadhaar information is correct and current, as any discrepancies or delays in authentication may result in disruptions to receiving benefits.
