The Income Tax Department of India has activated online filing for Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the Financial Year 2024-25 (Assessment Year 2025-26) through its official e-filing portal, incometax.gov.in. As of now, only ITR-1 and ITR-4 forms are available for online submission.

Eligibility Criteria for ITR-1 and ITR-4

ITR-1, also known as 'Sahaj', is designed for resident individuals with income up to ₹50 lakh from salary, one house property, and other sources like interest. ITR-4, or 'Sugam', caters to individuals, Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs), and firms (other than LLPs) with presumptive income from business or profession under Sections 44AD, 44ADA, or 44AE, with income also up to ₹50 lakh.

The online filing process now includes pre-filled data, aimed at simplifying the return filing process for taxpayers. This feature reduces manual data entry, minimizing errors and expediting the filing process.
