The Directorate General of Foreign Trade ( DGFT ), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, has notified new port restrictions on the import of specific goods originating from Bangladesh.
The directorate, vide Notification No. 21/2025-26 dated 27 June 2025, the Central Government, exercising powers under Section 3 read with Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992 and in accordance with the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, has amended the ITC (HS), 2022 Schedule 1 (Import Policy).

A new sub-paragraph has been inserted under Para 19(1) of the General Notes Regarding Import Policy, mandating that imports of certain goods from Bangladesh shall henceforth be subject to designated port restrictions.
"19. The import of following goods from Bangladesh to India shall be regulated as under:
(2) Port Restrictions on import of Goods from Bangladesh

The above-mentioned goods have been restricted to import through ports all over the country, except through Nhava Sheva Seaport.
The notification added that “The above restrictions at sub-Para 2 shall not apply to Bangladesh exports to Nepal/Bhutan transiting through India. However, re-export of the aforesaid Bangladesh Goods to India from Nepal/Bhutan shall not be allowed.”
The notification will come into force with immediate effect.
