Received ‘Significant Transactions’ Emails under Advance Tax e-Campaign? CBDT Issues Clarification
The Department clarified that such communications are not enforcement notices but are issued purely as reminders.

The Income Tax Department has issued clarifications on concerns regarding the Advance Tax e-Campaign for Assessment Year 2026-27 (FY 2025 - 26) following widespread reports of taxpayers receiving emails with inaccurate financial transaction data.
The department has asked the taxpayers to ignore the mails of ‘significant transactions’ under the Advance tax campaign.
This discrepancy, due to a technical glitch, led the Department to issue a formal clarification for the confusion. Authorities are currently working with their technical service providers to fix the error and ensure future communications are accurate.
The Department further clarified that such communications are not enforcement notices but are issued purely as reminders.
The objective of the mail was to encourage taxpayers to review financial information available with the tax authorities and make sure that appropriate advance tax obligations are complied with during the financial year, said the department.
In its clarification, the department stated that “The Department would like to clarify that these communications are intended purely as facilitative reminders to enable taxpayers to review relevant financial information available on the Compliance Portal and, where applicable, ensure appropriate advance tax compliance.
Taxpayers are advised to verify their transaction details through the e-Campaign tab on the Compliance Portal, accessible via the e-Filing portal.”
