The Ministry ofFinance, through a publishing on the website of the Press Information Bureau has announced the appointment of Sivasubramanian Ramann as the Chairperson of the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) on 20th June 2025.

An officer of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA&AS) of the 1991 batch, Ramann carries with him over three decades of experience in public finance, regulatory administration, and financial governance.

Ramann previously served as Deputy Comptroller & Auditor General and Chief Technology Officer in the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, where he played a key role in integrating technology into auditing systems.

Ramann also held leadership roles in several important financial institutions, serving as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), where he worked to enhance financial access for MSMEs.

He has also served as Managing Director and CEO of National E-Governance Services Ltd. (NeSL), India’s first Information Utility under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code along with a stint at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) between 2006 and 2013, rising to the position of Executive Director.

Holding degrees in Economics and Law, an MBA from the University of Delhi, and an M.Sc. in Financial Regulation from the London School of Economics, Ramann is also a Certified Internal Auditor and has obtained professional certifications in digital governance and securities law.

The appointment, notified by the Government of India on 8th April 2025, shall be for a term of five years from the date of assuming office or until he attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.

Sivasubramanian Ramann is expected to steer the PFRDA toward greater inclusion, transparency, and efficiency in India’s burdened pension sector.

The Ministry of Finance expressed confidence that his leadership will be a driving force to strengthen India’s pension system while promoting retirement security for all citizens.
