The course recognition and affiliation issues of Government Law College ( GLC ), Kozhikode with the Bar Council of India ( BCI ) raised concerns among the students and advocates. The principal has provided a thorough explanation, assuring them that the institution is actively working towards the affiliation process and that there is no reason to panic.

‘I will submit a detailed report based on this before the Hon’ble Kerala High Court within 3 days’ said Mr. Vidyut K.S., Principal, Government Law College, Kozhikode

The Principal explained that until 2011, the college conducted the B.A. LL.B. course, which was subsequently converted to the B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) program in 2012. A BCI inspection team had visited the college in 2016, verified all records, and noted that the B.B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), the course was being run at the time. However, despite the inspection, no formal report or affiliation was granted by the Council.

After assuming charge in November 2023, the new Principal, Mr. Vidyut K.S said that the matter of BCI affiliation was taken up with utmost seriousness. “We initiated all necessary steps to expedite the process,” the Principal said, adding that multiple follow-ups were made with the Bar Council.

The college has already submitted more than ten request letters seeking extension of affiliation and has remitted ₹35 lakhs to the BCI for the same, with an additional ₹40 lakhs proposed in this year’s plan.

The Principal further informed that through Adv. Manoj, Kerala’s BCI representative, the matter was taken up directly with the BCI Secretary, who instructed the college to complete online registration as part of the affiliation procedure.

“The process is in progress, we are entering over a thousand data entries on the BCI portal. Some student data, including Aadhaar details, are still pending,” the Principal said, advising parents to ensure their wards submit all necessary details promptly. “Unless every student’s data is entered, we cannot complete the registration,” he said.

The principal said to Taxscan that the college will not allow its students to suffer due to procedural delays or negligence on the BCI’s part.

Additionally, the Principal also observed that, to his knowledge, Government Law College, Thrissur and Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram did not receive fresh BCI affiliation post-2023.

“If GLC students are denied enrollment or eligibility for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE) due to this, we are confident of securing a stay order from the court,” he asserted.

Since 2012, the college has produced many distinguished law graduates, several of whom are currently serving as judicial officers, advocates, and academicians across the country.

The Principal said that the academic credibility and legacy of GLC Kozhikode remain intact, and the institution continues to function in full compliance with academic and regulatory standards.

He added that the ongoing BCI affiliation process is purely procedural and assured that it will be resolved soon, without any adverse impact on students’ education, enrollment, or career prospects.
