Voltas Receives ₹265 Crore GST SCN for Alleged Short Payment

Voltas Limited, a leading Tata Group company in the air conditioning and engineering solutions sector, has received a Show Cause Notice from the Central GST Commissionerate, Dehradun, alleging short payment of GST amounting to Rs. 265.25 crore for the financial years 2018-19 to 2020-21.

The notice has been issued under the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, the Uttarakhand GST Act, 2017, and the Integrated GST Act, 2017. It pertains to transactions carried out by Universal Comfort Products Limited (UCPL), a company that merged with Voltas during the financial year 2020-21. The GST authorities have sought an explanation from Voltas on why the tax amount should not be recovered from the company along with applicable interest and penalty.

Voltas, in its report, confirmed that it received the Show Cause Notice on July 1, 2025, at 5:09 p.m. The company has stated that it is currently evaluating the matter and will submit its reply to the authorities within the prescribed timeline. Voltas has assured stakeholders that it will handle the matter as per legal and regulatory requirements.

The company’s communication, signed by Ratnesh Rukhariyar, Company Secretary & Compliance Officer, emphasizes that the update is shared in compliance with Regulation 30 of SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations, 2015, ensuring transparency with shareholders and the market.
