Devendra Kumar, a 22-year-old unemployed of Bulandshahr, was shocked to learn in March that he owed the government Rs 24.61 lakh in Goods and Services Tax (GST) for a business with a Rs 1.36 crore in sales. He received another notification alerting him that he owned another business with a turnover of more than Rs 1.16 crore a few weeks later, in April.

The labourer who has been without a job for several months, reported the incident to the Bulandshahr police. After Kumar stated his fear that contractors connected to a business he worked for in Noida two years ago may have abused his paperwork to establish the new firms, the case has reached Gautam Buddha Nagar police.

Kumar claimed that two years ago, he worked as a packing assistant at a company in Noida. The contractor had taken my Pan card and Aadhaar for salary.

On March 13, Kumar received a notice informing him that his company’s 2022–23 revenue was Rs 1.36 crore, of which Rs 24.61 lakh was taxed. In an additional warning that Kumar received in April, it was said that a different company that belonged to him had shown the outward supply of different types of scrap goods of Rs. 116.24 lakh.

According to the statement of Devendra Kumar, he is a poor man and only earns Rs. 300 per day. Also he’s not working right now. Thus, there is no chance for him to be the owner of two firms.

He also stated that his employer collected his PAN and Aadhar card for salary. It is assumed that the employer might have misused the identity cards.

The officials have taken cases under Sections 420 (cheating) and 467, 468, 471 (forgery related) under Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1960. The investigation is progressing.
