Under the instructions of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet has approved the endorsement and formal acceptance of the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) between the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), which falls under the Department of Revenue in the Government of India, and the Australian Border Force, an entity within the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs.

The intention of this arrangement is to offer mutual advantages to accredited and reliable exporters from both parties when it comes to the efficient customs clearance of goods in the importing country.

The acknowledgment of Authorized Economic Operators through mutual recognition is a crucial component of the World Customs Organization’s SAFE Framework of Standards. This framework aims to enhance the security and efficiency of worldwide trade supply chains while simultaneously facilitating global trade activities. This arrangement is set to be advantageous for our exporters to Australia, fostering a stronger trade relationship between the two nations.

The commencement of the Mutual Recognition between the Australian Trusted Trader Program in Australia and the Authorized Economic Operator Program in India will be effective from the day both countries’ authorized representatives officially sign the agreement. The content of the proposed Mutual Recognition Arrangement has been concluded with the agreement of the Customs Administrations of both nations.
