A deputy commissioner of commercial tax under the Goods and Services Tax ( GST ) department was apprehended by a vigilance team at the Uttar Pradesh Capital for accepting a bribe of ₹2 lakh. The incident took place at Meera Bai Marg in Hazratganj, Lucknow on Tuesday, according to senior state vigilance officials.

The accused, identified as Dhanendra Kumar Pandey, was caught red-handed following an intelligence tip-off received by the vigilance department. Rajeev Krishna, the Director General of Vigilance, confirmed the arrest and highlighted that Pandey had demanded the bribe in exchange for facilitating a GST refund amounting to ₹20 lakh for a data entry firm named “ARDEM Data Services Private Limited.”

ARDEM Data Services Private Limited is known for providing document scanning and data entry services to various sectors such as bio-medical, financial, insurance, healthcare, and retail businesses nationwide.

Arvind Kumar Chaturvedi, SP Vigilance ( Intelligence ), shared in a press note that an FIR has been registered under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, at the Lucknow sector office of vigilance regarding this bribery case. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody after being presented before the competent court, and further investigation into the matter is underway.

Chaturvedi urged the public to report any instances of government servants demanding bribes for official work to the vigilance establishment at 9454401866. He assured that prompt action will be taken by the vigilance authorities in such cases.
