CBIC Chief welcomes E-Maalkhana, an Initiative for Online capturing of Data of Seized Goods [Read Letter]

The New Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs ( CBIC ), S. Ramesh, has welcomed the new initiative of the Delhi Airport Customs, called E-maalkhana which enables the capture of data belongs to detained goods.

Recently, the Delhi airport Customs has introduced a pilot project called E-Maalkhana for online capture of data pertaining to seized goods starting from time of seizure up to their disposal.

The system uses QR codes to manage and organise case properties seized by the department.

 “Field formations across their country should seize the opportunity of emulating such best practices by leveraging technology for overall efficiency and accountability in this important area,” the CBIC Chief said in a letter addressed to the Officials.

The Chairman also urged support and commitment from the officers to successfully complete the ongoing CBIC fortnight and smooth operation of the E-way Bill system.

In a bid to handhold/guide the trade for applying for the refund claims in a proper manner, the Board is  observing its third fortnight from 16th July 2018 to 30th July 2018.

He also directed the concerned officials to take concerted efforts to liquidate the pendency under the budgetary support for the eligible manufacturing units.

Under the GST regime, eligible manufacturing units under area based exemption scheme are being provided budgetary support for the residual period. This has bestowed the Department with the task of implementation of another arena of trade facilitation.

“I would like to invite attention of the concerned zonal Chief Commissioners to the VC convened by the Member (CX) and her DO letters in this regard, and urge them to take concerted efforts to liquidate the pendency relating to 1st and 2nd quarters expeditiously,” he said.
