The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has issued a clarification regarding the postponement of CA Examinations scheduled for May, amidst the Lok Sabha elections. This clarification comes in response to a grievance filed by a CA final student. The statement from ICAI’s response reads as follows:

“The 18th Lok Sabha Elections are scheduled in 7 phases on dates 19th, 26th April 2024, 7th, 13th, 20th, 25th May 2024 and ISt Junc 2024 across the country. It has been observed that the election dates i.e., 7th and 13th May 2024 are coinciding with our examination dates as notified vide Institute Important Announcement No. 13-CA (EXAM)/MAY – JUNE/2024 dated 25th January 2024.

In view of above, Institute has decided not to conduct Chartered Accountants’ examination not only on the election dates i.e., 7th and 13th May 2024 but also on the preceding day of the election date i.e., 6th and 12th May 2024. In short, there is no examinations on May 6th, 7th, 12th and 13th 2024. We understand that examinees who are working hard for the examinations should not loose their precious time in waiting long to write their examinations. At the same time, we also want that all our students should cast their valuable vote.”

The institute has clarified that there will be no examinations scheduled on the election date or the preceding dates. Furthermore, it has been emphasised that students have been given the opportunity to exercise their democratic right to vote while also being able to sit for their Chartered Accountants Examinations without undue delay.

Additionally, it has been noted that examinees for the May 2024 Exams are provided with the opportunity to modify their examination city, group, and medium from March 27, 2024 (10 AM) to March 29, 2024 (11.59 PM).

The ICAI concluded that “We would like to reaffirm and put on record that the interest of students is uppermost in our priority and would continue to strive to do whatever is legitimately possible to facilitate the academic endeavours of our students.”
