The Income Tax Department mandated the PAN-Aadhar linking with a fine of Rs 1,000by June 30th 2023. However, the same penalty is not applicable to the PAN holders who took the PAN cards on or after July 1st 2017. The deadline date has been completed.

The Income Tax department has recently informed that they will address cases in which individuals have submitted their fee payment and consent for linking but have not yet completed the linking process. This provision applies specifically to individuals who completed the linking before June 30th.

The Department has acknowledged that there have been cases where PAN holders encountered difficulties in downloading the challan after paying the fee for Aadhaar-PAN linking. To address this issue, individuals are advised to check the status of their challan payment by logging into the portal and accessing the ‘e-pay tax’ tab. If the payment is successful, PAN holders can then proceed with linking their PAN and Aadhaar.

Downloading the challan receipt is not necessary for linking PAN with Aadhaar. Moreover, once the PAN holder successfully completes the payment, an email containing the challan copy is automatically sent to them.

The Income Department has stated that “In cases where fee payment & consent for linking have been received, but linking has not been done till 30.06.2023, such cases will be duly considered by the Department.”

Recently, the department also informed that the PAN-Aadhaar demographic mismatching fix has been mentioned by the Income Tax Department. The department cautioned that gender, name, and date of birth mismatches could lead to demographic mismatches when PAN and Aadhaar are linked. However, a biometric-based authentication has been offered in order to further promote the seamless connection of PAN and Aadhaar.
