Rs. 601.97 Cr Collected as Late Fee, 11.48 Crore yet to Link PAN-Aadhar, says MoS Ministry of Finance in Lok Sabha

In response to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue unveiling the latest statistics regarding the linkage of Aadhaar with PAN cards, revealed that the government has collected a significant sum of Rs. 601.97 crore in late fees from individuals who failed to link their PAN with Aadhaar between June 30, 2023, and January 31, 2024.

The Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, provided crucial insights into the government’s efforts to enforce the Aadhaar-PAN linking, shedding light on the financial implications and the current status of compliance.

As of January 29, 2024, a staggering 11.48 crore PAN cards remain unlinked with Aadhaar, excluding exempted categories.

The Minister further confirmed that the total collection of late fees is a consequence of individuals failing to meet the deadline, reinforcing the government’s commitment to ensuring seamless integration.

In an earlier reply, the MoS in the Ministry of Finance had stated that, a total of 2.125 crore individuals have willingly paid ₹1,000 each for linking their Aadhaar with PAN between July 1st, 2022, and November 30th, 2023. This has resulted in a substantial collection of ₹2,125 crore.

As the government continues Aadhaar-PAN linkage, the enforcement measures will serve as a deterrent, prompting individuals to comply with the PAN-Aadhar mandate in a timely manner.
