CA May 2026 Exams: ICAI Releases ‘S.M.A.R.T Strategy’ Guide for Study, Preparation and Practice
The April 2026 edition explores one paper each for the Foundation, Intermediate and Final levels.

The Institute ofChartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has released the April 2026 edition of The Chartered Accountant Student - a monthly guide released by the Institute for CA news, information and events.
The “S.M.A.R.T Strategy” guide seeks to aid candidates preparing for the CA May 2026examinations and has been designed to provide students across the Foundation, Intermediate and Final levels with a structured approach to preparation and performance.
The April 2026 edition explores in depth, the Accounting Paper for Foundation level; Cost and Management Accounting Paper for Intermediate level, and the Financial Reporting Paper for the Final level.
ICAI’s guide splits up the entire practice into 5 steps, namely: Study, Master, Apply, Revise and Triumph.
Under ‘Study’, students have been asked to rely strictly on ICAI material and focus on conceptual clarity instead of rote learning.
The ‘Master’ phase emphasises on repeated practice and revisiting weak areas until full candidates acquire complete confidence in their conceptual understanding.
‘Apply’ stage directs students to solve case-based questions and practise extensively through Revision Test Papers and Mock Test Papers to simulate real exam conditions and improve their time management.
In ‘Revise’, the guide highlights the importance of multiple revisions using concise notes and ICAI’s last-mile revision tools to ensure retention in the final days before the exam.
Finally, ‘Triumph’ focuses on successful execution of the exam, maintaining composure, managing time and trusting their preparation.
Beyond this, the guide details academic support systems including live virtual classes, revisionary sessions and evaluated mock tests, where answer sheets are returned within a short time to help students identify mistakes and improve presentation.
The publication begins with messages from CA Prasanna Kumar D (President), CA Mangesh Pandurang Kinare (Vice-President) and CA Babu Abraham Kallivayalil (Chairman, Board of Studies), who highlighted the need for disciplined preparation, conceptual clarity and consistent revision to crack the exams.
The guide also includes elements like an accounting crossword, offering an alternative way to reinforce concepts through applied learning.
